This list of frequently asked questions is for EXPO volunteers, Oct. 13th, and Race Day volunteers (Oct. 14th) in Ka'anapali. Aid Station volunteer FAQ's are here at the bottom of the page.
Q-01: Where do volunteers park?
A: Pre-race day parking on Sat., for the Health & Fitness Expo in the Westin Ballroom is in the Sheraton parking garage in Ka'anapali. You will receive a pass when you check in for your shift at the volunteer table at the Expo.
A: Race Day parking on Sunday is at Lahaina Civic Center. (see maps) Shuttles to the finish line area will be available.
Q-02: Where do I check in?
A: Pre-race day check-in on Sat. for Expo and Race setup is in the North Ballroom at Westin Resort & Spa.
A: Race Day volunteer check-in on Sunday is at the volunteer check-in tent (see maps) 10-15 minutes before your shift.
Q-03: What do you provide and what should I bring?
A: All volunteers, regardless of how many shifts they register for, will receive a Maui Marathon Volunteer T-Shirt, food provided by Maui Taco, and water refills (please bring your own refillable water bottle). Dress appropriately for indoor A/C conditions (Sat) and protect yourself for outdoor exposure (Sun).
Q-04: How are the Aid Stations staffed?
A: Area businesses represent each aid station and provide their own volunteers. Check out these businesses that are stepping up for our community event!
Q-05: I have a hard time standing. What kinds of jobs allow me to spend more time sitting than standing?
A: Volunteer check-in desk, Information booth, Race Packet pickup, Transportation Coordinator at Civic Center (bring chair), Expo T-Shirt Distribution
Q-06: Is there an age requirement for volunteering?
A: The highest priority for Maui Marathon participants and volunteers is safety. Volunteers should be at least 14 years old and have personal development skills commensurate with the job they are volunteering for. In other words, volunteers must have good reading skills if checking in volunteers and distributing race packets. Unless your child is a registered volunteer and capable of fulfilling the tasks required, do not bring children to your volunteer shift.
Q-07. Is there somewhere I can keep my "stuff" while I'm volunteering?
A: You can safely store your bag, backpack, purse, etc. with the volunteer check-in desk volunteers so that you are unencumbered while assisting runners and event staff.
Q-08. Do I get a break during my volunteer shift?
A: Breaks are on an "as needed" basis. As long as your particular station is covered. Depending on your selected job assignment, there are likely to be busy periods and not-busy periods. Check in with your fellow volunteers to assure all bases are covered while you break.
Q-10: What if a news reporter or someone representing the media wants to ask me questions?
A: All media inquiries, questions from reporters or any type of media contact goes through one point of contact: Jim Lynch at 808-446-9111.
Q-11: Where do I find specific race information?
A: Visit mauimarathon.com, especially the FAQs.
Q-12: How do I access my shift information after I sign-up?
A: When you register, you are either creating or updating a "myvolunteerpage.com" profile. You are responsible for securely saving your login information for future recall. Once in your profile, you can sign up for shifts, see your schedule, update it (up to 24 hours before your shift - otherwise you'll need to contact the volunteer director), download and print it. Please do not create a duplicate profile if you've lost your account access. Simply contact the volunteer director.
