Timely Note for 6/5/14: Most available shifts are 9p-1a (2 nd shift) at Celestial Cinema, and availability increases Fri, Sat, Sun. Anyone on the Seaside Cinema shift that would like to cancel or change venues, I encourage that as we are overstaffed tonight (Thurs).
I will be staffing continuously throughout the festival so just because you don't see an available shift doesn't mean that there isn't one. I have a broader overview of needs and you may be just the person to fulfill that spot! There are still lots of ways to help and earn movie passes (vouchers). Reminder: you don't have to work first to access your reward. You can pick up tickets after 5:30pm beginning 6/4 at either Celestial Cinema or at MACC will call.
Dear Maui Film Festival Supporters,
Thank you for your interest in supporting the 2014 Maui Film Festival at Wailea. As a registered volunteer, you will have the opportunity to extend your aloha to residents and visitors alike. The festival extends its aloha to volunteers via valuable ticket vouchers (note the new perks structure for 2014, below). We'll support you all we can so that you can enjoy the benefits outlined on the "NEED TO KNOW!" page on this website.
www.artofvolunteering.com was launched in 2008 and is tied to a global volunteer registry and scheduling database that streamlines communications. The site is a resource for organizations who want to host an event. For volunteers, it's a place to see what events might be coming up in your area. As a registered volunteer you will receive email notices when an event matches your designated interests. Once registered, you log in at myvolunteerpage.com. Through this volunteer portal, travelers can research and engage with volunteer opportunities abroad.
Registration & Scheduling are seperate processes. Your registration application must be reviewed before you will be able to see the list of activities available to you and subsequently create your schedule.
If you can book a flight online, you can register and schedule yourself to volunteer. If you feel the need to put your toe in the water first, visit the tutorial (there have been some software upgrades since creating the tutorial, so the flow of information may look slightly different). Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the new system. If you'd like to browse a list of volunteer activities before registering, go here and then click on "I would like to volunteer for this organization" at the top of that page if you want to register.
Changes in 2014
New Venue: The SEASIDE CINEMA MUSIC CAFÉ & SUNSET LOUNGE at the Grand Wailea will screen one feature each night. There will be little to no volunteer staffing and volunteer vouchers will not be accepted (at least for this first year).
When you login to your myvolunteerpage.com profile, be sure to update the categories you are interested > "additional information" > "Advise me of volunteer opportunities at these kinds of events:"
Volunteer Perks (NEW for 2014!)
Each 4 hour volunteer shift entitles you to three $12 movie vouchers good at this year's festival only. An evening at the Celestial Cinema in Wailea requires two vouchers per person, so if you work two shifts, you will have earned an evening at the Celestial Cinema for you and two friends (or 3 nights just for you). Certain "hard to staff" late night shifts which also involve end of night clean-up will receive one extra voucher per shift. Light Film Festival movie tickets are no longer part of the volunteer incentives.
All earned/committed vouchers will be available one half hour before the first MACC screening on opening night, Wednesday, June 4th, at the special volunteer "will-call" desk set up at the MACC, or at the volunteer check-in desk at the Celestial Cinema in Wailea (after 5:30pm).
Once again, Barry, Stella, the Rivers Family, and their extended ohana of filmophiles have put together an amazing schedule of films again for 2014. Keep in mind that I am only scheduling volunteers for the Wailea films and special event venues. The MACC has its own volunteer staff (under the direction of
Naomi Tamura) along with its own training and orientation protocol.
To prepare for scheduling please familiarize yourself with the "NEED TO KNOW!" section describing the various jobs, what to wear, how you are "perked", parking, etc. Then look at the WORK SCHEDULE to determine how you can best serve, based on your interests and experience. If you have experience as a ticket taker or working in the merchandise booth, choose those activities as experience is preferred with these particular jobs. Then, review the Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and the main Maui Film Festival site.
To be considered as a volunteer, please go to the volunteer registration and scheduling center now. Registered volunteers will be notified by email when the 2014 volunteer activities are available for online scheduling.
Mahalo, and enjoy this year's festival at Wailea.
